put a fork in it. day 4.

i have literally worked my tail off & in the words of kristen cavallari circa retro laguna beach, 'i'm dunzo!'. decorating my room or any classroom for that matter is my absolute favorite idea of a good time. i love the creating. i love the projects. i love the challenge. and i always feel this huge sense of accomplishment when the final detail is put into place. keep in mind that this is my temporary classroom  while my old classroom gets a facelift. she will look 29 years young when they get finished with her. also keep in mind that there are still plenty of projects waiting in the wings....recall green light to paint furniture?! but this is how i will greet my students monday morning. me and my fresh flower theme.

their desks are set with a name tag, because free for all seating gives me anxiety, their survival guide, bobcat folder, 6th grade application, and miscellaneous workbooks.
i have a total of 5 bulletin boards. they are all backed with black fabric and coordinating, but different borders. patterned fabric tends to take away from the displayed work, so i stick with the neutral. instead of buying fabric in the future, i will buy bed sheets! i just heard that idea from a co-worker the other day and it made so much sense! much cheaper and varied lengths! loves!
the poster was a pinterest find and all frames were purchased on the cheap from goodwill and spray painted.

this bad boy needs some updating. my focus wall will be one of the first things to get an overhaul once school starts.

this rug was 85% off at joann's, making it a no-brainer addition to room 33. adding rugs, lamps, and curtains instantly makes a room feel like a home.

my class library is also weak sauce. i went through and discarded a ton of books that i myself would never want to read. 6th grade is going to be doing a fundraiser back to school night, my portion of the proceeds will go directly here. daily 5 here i come!

my latest and most beloved find this summer was chalkboard spray paint. works wonders and is so easy. this was a random shelf i had from a bookcase. i lightly sanded it and sprayed a few coats...instantly became my new chalkboard!

my schedule cards were a freebie from first grade parade which were mentioned in an earlier post. i backed all of the them with scrapbook paper and laminated them. The little flower containers in the bottom left (aka michael's clearance felt purses) hold all other cards not being used.
smarty pants will hopefully encourage my students to learn their multiplication facts. pass a test, get smarties (& a sugar high). i might regret this. just kidding. anything to get them to master those facts. after 6 years i am desperate.
this former principals desk is proof that being nice to your office staff pays off. i am in love.
my calendar cards were printed from the doodlebugs teachers pay teachers store. did i mention they were F-to the-REE?! she has every month with the cutest graphics.

this bookcase will hold all my many binders. but for now, it is home for supplies and my special books.

i am giving the 'pom pom on dry erase marker' pinterest find a shot. and the notebooks are awaiting their home as future math journals.
target dollar section containers. extreme clearance michael's flowers. a match made in heaven.
my favorite first day book (however, i am also reading first day jitters and making jitter juice this year which is a first! so we will see how the two compare!). the otters crack me right up and are a great tranistion into formulating our very own class rules.

as the room transitions, i will post the transformation. until then, bring it on monday. room 33 is ready.
